Farmers’ Markets Are a Place to Taste, Learn, and Enjoy

If you are looking for locally produced vegetables, herbs, dairy, or meat, you won’t have far to go: There is undoubtedly a farmers’ market near you.

There are many reasons to patronize these festive community events. They are fun for the entire family and allow you to support your local economy, learn about farms, obtain healthy foods, and enjoy the fresh air. Want to know more about nutrition and the environmental benefits of locally produced foods? Ask the farmers who grew them! They have a wealth of knowledge and can advise you on preparing the season’s finest.

On Thursdays from May 29 to October 2, CDPHP is hosting its own farmers’ market at 500 Patroon Creek Blvd., Albany, NY. We have done this every year since 2009. The public is encouraged to attend between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

This year’s farmers and vendors include:

For urban Capital Region neighborhoods, CDPHP is proud to sponsor the Veggie Mobile, a rolling produce stand that sells fresh vegetables at wholesale cost. The Veggie Mobile team makes dozens of stops throughout the week, visiting public locations, child-care centers, senior centers, and low-income housing facilities.

It’s great that more farmer’s markets are popping up in the area. I am grateful to take part in a farm share as well that I pick up weekly at a farmer’s market a few blocks from where I live.
