Exploring Senior Wellness Options

If you’re in (or approaching) your golden years, you know that now, more than ever, is the time to stay active and healthy. Fortunately, CDPHP® offers plenty of resources to help you achieve your goals. Our senior wellness programs provide assistance and guidelines on everything from proper medication adherence to fitness and nutrition. Let’s explore some ways that you can stay fit and vibrant for many more years to come.

Healthy Living Center

The Healthy Living Center, inside Hannaford Supermarket at 900 Central Ave. in Albany, offers free classes, programs, and workshops led by certified fitness instructors, dieticians, and pharmacists from the YMCA, Hannaford, and CDPHP. Options include Cycling for Older Adults and Beginners, Low Impact Aerobics, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, and EnhanceFitness Arthritis, as well as SilverSneakers classes and programs. Register online or stop by when you have time. You can also call to make an appointment for a one-on-one meeting with a CDPHP member relations specialist to discuss your health insurance eligibility and benefits.

Free CDPHP Wellness Classes

Our wellness classes and workshops are a great way for members to achieve fitness goals, get in shape, and learn tips for staying healthy. Offerings for seniors include Balance and Strength, Golden Nia, walking clinics, Sit ‘n Get Fit, meal planning for diabetes, how to spot the early signs of Alzheimer’s, and lots of other interesting choices. Check out the full schedule.

Ask Your Doctor About Preventive Screenings

CDPHP recommends and covers a range of annual preventive screenings and vaccinations to help you stay healthy, including mammograms, prostate exams, and flu shots. Talk to your primary care provider (PCP) about which ones are right for you.

Your PCP will also follow your progress and oversee any care that you require, whether it’s now or later. Don’t have a PCP? Use our Find-A-Doc search tool to locate one near you.

Complete Your PHA

If you feel generally healthy but want to create an action plan for better health, complete a personal health assessment (PHA). The PHA is secure and confidential and is designed to help you understand how your actions can influence your health and provide recommendations for improving it. All you need is your CDPHP member ID number, 15-20 minutes, and some basic information (height, weight, etc.). If you have your cholesterol and blood pressure statistics handy, your results will be more comprehensive.
