Ladies and gentlemen, fall has officially arrived! And with it, so has the two-month mark for the Capital Region’s first bike-share program – CDPHP® Cycle!SM. If you’re like some folks we spoke to during the planning stages of this initiative, you may have wondered, “Who will use this?” Well, two months later, the answer is … almost 2,000 Capital Region residents and visitors!
When CDPHP Cycle! launched on July 27, John D. Bennett, MD, CDPHP president and CEO, spoke about the health benefits of biking. Simply put, mobility is life, and what better way to demonstrate that than by electing to sponsor a program that will encourage people to keep their cars in their garages and hop on a bicycle instead. You can read more about how biking can improve your health by checking out this blog post.
It’s a call-to-action the Capital Region has taken seriously. Here are some other cool stats we’ve gathered about the program so far:
- Total number of bike rides: 7,615
- Average usage time: 24 minutes
- Total number of calories burned: 793,292
- Total reduction in carbon dioxide vs. single-driver cars: 17,489
Albany, where CDPHP Cycle! is primarily used for commuting, leads the pack when it comes to members and rides. In Saratoga Springs, CDPHP Cycle! bikes are used for recreational purposes and exploring the historical city.
The CDPHP Cycle! season is expected to end on November 30, 2017, and resume on April 1, 2018, with 160 more bikes in circulation and additional bike stations. Have ideas about where you’d like to see stations added? We’ll be looking for your feedback, so keep an eye out for the opportunity to voice your opinion!
That said, there’s still plenty of time in the 2017 season to check a CDPHP Cycle! ride off your to-do list. And remember, CDPHP members get 20 percent off CDPHP Cycle! plans by using promo code CDPHPMEM2017 at checkout. You can purchase a membership or load a pay-as-you-go account by registering online or downloading the mobile app. Consider a monthly membership – at just $15 per month, it includes 60 minutes of free daily riding time! If you choose the hourly plan, you pay for what you cycle, which comes out to just 8 cents per minute.
