Named in honor of Francis W. Peabody, a physician, teacher, and humanitarian who famously said, “…the secret of the care of the patient is in caring for the patient,” our Peabody Award winner is celebrated for going the extra mile.
Dr. Alexander Ford has built a career on doing what he loves most – helping people live healthier lives. With dual training as a physician and registered dietitian, Dr. Ford brings a unique perspective to patients that blends science, compassion, and community connection.
A native of Albany, New York, Dr. Ford graduated cum laude from Buffalo State with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and worked as a registered dietitian before pursuing his doctorate at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His early career experiences educating patients about nutrition at the Albany Damien Center, serving as a public health nutritionist for the New York State Department of Health, and volunteering with 4th Family, a nonprofit empowering at-risk youth, laid the foundation for a holistic approach to medicine that emphasizes prevention, education, and empowerment.
After completing his residency at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Ford returned home to practice family medicine at Community Care Physicians. Patients quickly noticed his compassionate bedside manner, attentiveness, and ability to truly listen.
“When most doctors have one foot in the exam room and the other out the door, Dr. Ford is fully present,” one patient shared. “He listens, he follows through, and he provides tools to help you live healthier beyond the visit.”
Dr. Ford’s passion for teaching extends beyond the exam room. As director of medical education for 4th Family, he teaches children about the connection between physical activity, health nutrition, and mental well-being. Though his volunteer work, Dr. Ford speaks at local schools, health fairs, and community forums, making health care more approachable and culturally relevant for underserved populations.
Dr. Ford is passionate about addressing health disparities in the African American community. Inspired by his own family’s experiences with diabetes and hypertension, he incorporates culturally sensitive conversations about food, lifestyle, and preventive care into his practice. By tailoring his approach to the realities of his patients’ lives, he helps families break generational cycles of chronic disease.
Through it all, Dr. Ford remains grounded in his approach to medicine – treating the whole person, not just the condition. He combines lifestyle interventions and nutritional counseling to prevent disease, manage pain, and improve his patients’ well-being.
Whether in the exam room, classroom, or community, Dr. Ford is reshaping what it means to be a family physician. His holistic approach makes him not only an exceptional doctor but also a true advocate for healthier lives. For these reasons and more, Dr. Ford is being honored with the CDPHP Top Doctors Peabody Award.
