2023 Top Doctors – Internal Medicine Practice

St. Peter’s Health Partners – Troy Internal Medicine

“This is a career, not a job. A profession where you donate a good part of your life to the care of other people. If you don’t care about other people, and that is not your primary concern, then you’re in the wrong profession.”

I noticed Capital Healthcare Associates is second on this list. I have an issue with this. Not so much the Doctor, but the staff (which I call “gatekeepers”). Last January I contracted the flu, even though I got the flu shot. Since it was a Sunday I went to Samaritan ER. I asked for Tamiflu because I was within the window. They said the only supply they had was for admitted patients and I would need to call my doctors office for a follow up. The next day I did. The nurse told me to come in after I finish taking the Tamiflu. I informed her that the ER did not give me any so she said just to rest and drink plenty of water. I am 68 yrs old with metastatic breast cancer and she would NOT give me an appointment. My flu turned into pneumonia, which my Oncologist (which BTW is from NYOH, recommended to me by my MSK oncologist, and NOT on your list) treated by prescribing the Z-pack.
Fast forward to April. I contracted Cellulitis. I was on LI spending Easter with my son. We came home early and I called the Doctor’s office for an appointment. This time I said “I need to see some type of Healthcare professional, whether the doctor, a PA or an NP. I am running a fever and have a severe rash on my arm. This is the only way I could get an appointment. I was scheduled to see the NP who actually got the doctor to see me.
I now go to a different Community Care.

Hi Janet, I am sorry about your experience at Capital Healthcare Associates. However, I am impressed by how you have advocated for yourself, even if that meant switching to a new practice. I appreciate your comments and wish you the best! Dr. Bennett

Why are AC,OP and diagnostic Imaging studies requiring prior auths in 2024? Concern that will result in scheduling delays. Would appreciate your response. Thank you.

Hi Cynthia, Unfortunately, we’ve noticed an uptick in unnecessary testing and treatment, which can be harmless and costly for patients, so we are adding prior authorizations to certain medical services to ensure you receive the most appropriate and effective care. We know how important it is for you to receive care in a timely manner, which is why we are following federal guidelines for prior authorization requests. For all urgent requests, these will be completed within 72 hours.
