Your Guide to CDPHP Maternity Benefits

Before I became pregnant, when I would see expecting mothers walking down the street, baby bumps perfectly round, I’d fantasize about how amazing that experience would be. Fast-forward to my own pregnancies when the reality of sleepless nights, financial worries, dirty diapers, and nursing challenges set in and motherhood turned out not to be as glamourous as I had pictured it in my head.

But, don’t get me wrong. Having a baby is a wonderful experience. I did it twice, so it couldn’t be all that bad! Plus, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get the urge every once and a while to do it all over again, if only for those moments of baby snuggles in the middle of the night. However, if I did do it again, I’d be more prepared and aware of the maternity benefits I have access to as a CDPHP® member. Keep in mind that your particular benefits may be slightly different. Members can always contact member services or log in to their member accounts for more detailed information.

I am most impressed with the fact that insurance companies, including CDPHP, now cover breast pumps for nursing mothers. As a new mother, paying almost $300 for just the pump, not the baggies and parts you also need, was pretty overwhelming.

CDPHP® Mom 2 Be
For additional support, I encourage all new moms to sign up for Mom 2 Be. This unique program provides all kinds of tips and tools to help you get through your pregnancy and prepare for motherhood the best way you possibly can, including:

  • Access to free wellness classes, such as prenatal yoga, family belly dancing (which sounds so cute and fun, I can barely stand it!), and more
  • A pregnancy calendar to track appointments, as well as changes to your body and baby

So, now that I know everything that is available to me as a CDPHP member, I guess I need to figure out whether I want to take the plunge into motherhood once again … and perhaps see what my boyfriend thinks!
