The crisp days of October are ideal for gathering family and friends for a healthy outdoor walk or run. CDPHP® is proud to support these types of events that also benefit worthy organizations and the vital programs they provide in the communities we serve. Below is a sampling so you can learn more and participate.
The Wesley Community, 131 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs
Saturday, October 3
Enjoy this family-friendly event in Saratoga Springs to raise funds for The Wesley Community, which provides housing, rehabilitation, and caregiving services for senior citizens. Walk a one-mile course throughout The Wesley Community’s 36-acre campus while surrounded by more than 1,000 helium balloons. The event will also feature a hot-air balloon on display, music, face painting, balloon-themed games, and more. Right after the walk at 11 a.m., you can enjoy Giffy’s BBQ and live music. Online registration is available. All walkers will receive a free T-shirt.
Outdoor Club at All-Sport Health & Fitness, 17 Old Main St., Fishkill
Saturday, October 3
This walk aims to raise awareness for and help eliminate sexual assault, gender violence, and domestic abuse. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk a mile in women’s shoes for this important cause and to have some fun. It’s not easy walking in high heels, but it’s a unique experience and gets the community talking about these difficult topics. The event also raises funds for Family Services, a 135-year-old social services agency in Poughkeepsie that provides help and hope to teens, families, and women in need. For more information, email or call (845) 452-1110, ext. 3116.
Prospect Park, Troy
Sunday, October 4
This fundraiser for Whitney Young Health isn’t your typical run in the park. Rather, it’s a superhero-themed obstacle course to raise funds for Whitney Young Health’s programs and centers, which provide vital health care services to individuals who are economically disadvantaged. By participating in this fun and exhilarating obstacle run, you will become a superhero to the many children, families, men, and women that Whitney Young Health cares for every day. Grab your cape because there will be a costume contest, too! Online registration is available for individuals and teams.
Jennings Landing, 1 Quay St., Albany
Saturday, October 17
The Domestic Violence Unit of the Albany Police Department works daily to serve and protect victims of domestic violence and provides advocacy to help ensure that offenders are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This event was initiated in 2014 to heighten awareness and raise funds to provide support for victims and their families. Online registration is available or you can fill out a registration form to send via U.S. mail. For more information, contact LaQuanda Lawson at (518) 447-7867.
