When CDPHP member Kyla Pemberton gets her mail, she looks forward to receiving her newsletter, Focus on Health.
“There is so much great information in there on all the programs and services offered by CDPHP. I sit down and read it cover to cover,” Kyla said.
That’s exactly how she learned about Ovia Health, a fertility, pregnancy, and parenting app with exclusive features available at no extra cost to CDPHP members through a partnership with the digital health company.
“I saw an article for Ovia when I was pregnant with my son. I downloaded it right away and loved the informational articles, seeing how big the baby was week to week, and looking up symptoms I was experiencing during pregnancy. All too often, I’d leave the doctor’s office and forget to ask some of my questions. The Ovia app filled in those gaps for me,” Kyla explained.
CDPHP began offering members access to Ovia Health in 2022. Ovia Health provides digital support and personalized guidance for fertility, pregnancy, and parenting, and even menopause preparation and management. The program includes unlimited one-on-one support from an Ovia Health coach, access to daily health and wellness programs, symptom tracking, and more.
Once Kyla’s son, Noah, was born she began using the Ovia Parenting app to track her nursing sessions. Noah is now 6 months old, and Kyla is still successfully nursing, which she credits Ovia with, as well as the Capital Region Baby Cafes, a local network of lactation consultants and moms supporting each other through their breastfeeding journey. She’s even struck up conversations with people about the app who have noticed her using it while out and about with her son.
“I find the app incredibly user friendly and I love to talk to people about it who are thinking about getting pregnant, are pregnant, or are already parents,” said Kyla.
Following her 6-week postpartum visit, Kyla noticed that her mood was off. She was aware of the so-called “baby blues” and the very real possibility that she was experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression or anxiety. Using her access to an Ovia Health coach, Kyla confided her recent mood changes and her Health Coach recommended getting connected with a therapist. After assessing Kyla’s preferences, she was sent a list of providers accepting CDPHP insurance.
“I’ve been talking to someone and it’s helping a lot. I’m glad I didn’t wait because it makes me a better mom to my son to know I’m taking care of myself so I can take care of him,” Kyla stated.
A longtime CDPHP member, Kyla praises her health plan for a seamless experience, noting that all doctor’s appointments and any communication with CDPHP was effortless. When she received a large hospital bill, a member services representative quickly explained that this sometimes occurs when a hospital generates a bill to a member prior to billing CDPHP, and that she need not worry about it, putting her mind at ease during the overwhelming early weeks of motherhood.
“CDPHP makes me feel like I’m completely taken care of. It’s personal.”
