If you’re a runner, walker, or just an active person looking for healthy ideas and products or to take advantage of important health screenings, the CapitalCare/CDPHP® Health & Fitness Expo is for you! The Expo is part of the Freihofer’s 37th Run for Women and is open Friday, May 29 from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. To join in the fun, just head to the Convention Hall, which is next to the Egg at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
The Expo is free and open to the public. It has something for everyone and provides an enjoyable, family-friendly way to learn more about your own health and how to encourage your family’s healthy habits. The event will offer various free health screenings courtesy of the CapitalCare Medical Group, plus giveaways and fitness tips from CDPHP wellness staff. Also featured are numerous fitness and wellness vendors, as well as massage therapy and fitness demonstrations. In addition, fitness experts will be on hand to answer questions and discuss common mistakes people make when trying new exercises.
Curious about your body mass index (BMI)? Or body fat percentage? A variety of vendors will perform body fat analyses; BMI, diabetes, cardiac risk, and asthma assessments; and check for other conditions. The best-case scenario is that you find out you’re in great shape; the worst case is you discover a risk factor that spurs you to visit your doctor. For most of the medical conditions for which these screenings are designed, there are lifestyle changes that may make a huge difference for your future.
Ever wish you had a moment to bend your doctor’s ear? Or gain some insight into the latest fitness trends? The Health & Fitness Expo offers the opportunity to speak with not only medical providers and clinic professionals, but elite athletes as well. You can also participate in healthy living seminars and listen to health panel discussions.
Don’t miss these other family-focused, healthy activities:
The various runs and walks taking place this weekend are, without a doubt, among the main attractions. The 5k Run for Women is on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and attracts some of the top international and American female distance runners, as well as more than 4,000 women from the Capital Region and across the nation. A Junior 3k, Kids’ Run, and Community Walk are also scheduled for Saturday.
Whether you want to improve your health or are looking for an excuse to stay active, the Health & Fitness Expo can help you reach your goals. I hope to see you at this fun and informative event.
