Peace on the Open Road with CDPHP®

Imagine the sound of a revving engine, the wind rushing past your ears as you gain speed, then, a sense of tranquility as a clear highway unfolds before you.

These feelings of freedom and adventure are at the heart of why many people love motorcycles, says Liz Cruz, office and marketing manager at Moroney’s Harley-Davidson and Moroney’s Motorsports in New Windsor, New York. “It’s a hobby where you have solitude. You are on the open road. You are at peace,” she says.

Liz has spent the past nine years immersed in the community and has become deeply connected to both fellow Moroney’s employees and their customers. Liz strives to look out for her team members, whom she views like family. “We all care very much about each other,” she explains.

To ensure that her employees are protected through life’s twists and turns — even when they take to the open road — Liz and the Moroney’s team chose to work with CDPHP.

Choosing CDPHP

Liz and the Moroney’s team became connected with CDPHP through their insurance broker who helped them find plans that best suited their employees’ needs. “CDPHP had multiple options, so it was very nice to have different policies to offer the employees based on their specific situation,” Liz explains.

Expansive Coverage in the Hudson Valley

In addition to affordable rates, Liz says, the coverage is comprehensive. “Since we’ve gotten CDPHP, all the employees were able to just seamlessly continue with their providers and their appointments. No issues, no hiccups, no mistakes, no errors, no billing issues. It’s been very easy for me because I’m the go-to person if they should have any issues.”

Another major benefit is that CDPHP offers coverage across multiple counties in the area. “Most of my staff live very close to the dealership,” Liz says. “Over the years, it’s been difficult to find an insurance provider that will have coverage in Orange County where the employer is located, but also in Dutchess County, which is across the river from us, where some of our staff commute from. CDPHP has coverage in both areas.”

CDPHP: The Guardian Bell

If anyone understands the importance of health insurance, it’s Liz, who is constantly on the lookout for everyone on her team who motorcycles.

“The insurance coverage is imperative,” she says, emphasizing the hazards motorcyclists face on the road between distracted drivers, self-driving cars and more.

Fortunately, those who motorcycle are aware of the risks, and the community has embraced a special talisman known as the guardian bell. “It is usually as a gift to bikers,” Liz explains. “It’s supposed to be a good luck charm to keep them safe on the road. I would say CDPHP is kind of like that guardian bell.”

A Community Like No Other

In addition to the freedom and excitement of riding, Liz points out that the motorcycle community is known for its strong sense of camaraderie. “I’ve never seen a hobby like this where people come out and show love and support in numbers,” she says, recalling a touching moment when the biker community showed up to support one of their own:

“I had a small child here who grew up with a lot of my motorcyclists. His whole family all rides bikes. He was being bullied at school for a medical condition that he had. For his birthday, his mother asked if I could throw a little group ride together to ride by the house, so that he felt like he had a support system.”

The “little group ride” quickly turned into anything but little. “There were about 200 bikes in the parking lot that morning, and we weren’t even open as a business. It was a Sunday, and they all rode through his cul-de-sac to wave to that little boy and give him patches so that he felt like he was part of something,” Liz says.

The impact on the boy was tremendous. “In a few months, his doctor said that his recovery time went so quickly. They were shocked at how quickly he healed from the medical condition. His confidence went through the roof. His mother was so appreciative that he was like a different little boy. He was happy. He was confident. He wasn’t scared. He went to school, and he made sure that all his friends knew that he had bikers as friends on his side. When bikers need each other, they really show up.”
