20 Capital Region gyms and fitness studios you should know about


Finding a fitness space that aligns with your goals and workout style is key to building a good exercise program. If you’re new to fitness, or looking to branch out, you might be intimidated by the number of options. Rest assured, there’s a fitness setting for everyone, whether you’re looking for strength training, cycling, women-only studios, or a place where the whole family can exercise.


We’ve organized a list of 20 fitness studios and gyms throughout the Capital Region that are sure to keep you moving!

Boxing and Kickboxing

If the idea of powering through a workout that includes boxing jabs, uppercuts, and the occasional roundhouse kick sounds like fun, these gyms might be for you. Not only are boxing workouts great for strengthening your body, but they’re great for cardiovascular health, too!

  • BreakThru Boxing – Albany, NY
    BreakThru Boxing offers one-hour classes perfect for all fitness levels and ages. The studio also prepares and encourages members to compete in fitness challenges, like the Spartan race.
  • Focusmaster Fitness – Troy, NY
    Focusmaster Fitness is a locally owned and operated boxing studio in Troy. Their boxing-inspired workouts are designed to help you maximize results in a 30-minute class.

CrossFit

CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen consisting of functional and constantly varied movements performed at a high intensity. It’s about maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest amount of time. While you might be wary about joining a CrossFit gym, don’t be! The workouts are scalable, meaning you can modify movements to your fitness level. In addition, the CrossFit atmosphere is supportive and social. The class will be cheering you on through your final rep!

  • ADK CrossFit – Glens Falls, NY
    Founded in 2012, ADK CrossFit serves Warren and Washington counties. Their classes are designed to be progressive, interactive, and fun. In addition to CrossFit classes for adults, the gym offers a CrossFit kids program as well.
  • Albany CrossFit – Albany, NY
    Albany’s first CrossFit gym, offering classes seven days a week. Their introductory course, “On Ramp,” will prepare you for CrossFit, so you feel confident and safe during workouts. The space is also home to The Court Club, which offers eight racquetball/handball courts and three squash courts.
  • Underwood Park CrossFit – Fort Edward, NY
    Small-town feel with big-time community. Underwood Park CrossFit is committed to using fitness, nutrition, and community to help move clients forward in all areas of their life.

Hybrid Studios

The studios below offer a mix of classes and workout options.

  • Anatomie – Troy, NY
    Anatomie has two studio spaces and offers a variety of classes including yoga, cycling, strength training, and hybrid classes—a mix of cycling, rowing, and strength work. Memberships include access to their live stream and on-demand library, so you can work out from home or wherever life takes you.
  • Fitness Artist – Clifton Park, NY
    Fitness Artist offers members a variety of ways to engage. Personal training, small group training, and 45-minute group classes are offered. The studio provides a highly personalized training experience for its clients and only accepts a limited number of members.
  • Performance Wellness Recovery (PWR) – Albany, NY
    PWR brings a variety of disciplines under one roof, including interval training, pedal classes, and recovery work. The gym also caters to youth athletes, ages seven to 18, with a focus on sports performance.
  • Wellnest Studios – Latham, NY
    Wellnest Studios is a one-stop shop for mind and body. Their fitness options include personal training, group classes, yoga, cycling, TRX, Pilates, and more. In addition, the space is home to a massage studio and private meditation space.
  • Britt Deitz Fitness – Live and on demand virtual classes
    Britt Deitz Fitness offers members a variety of ways to get moving, from spin, strength training, HIIT, tread classes to flexibility and mobility. Live virtual classes are offered and over 500 recorded on demand workout videos can be accessed anytime.

Specialty

  • The Hot Yoga Spot – Multiple locations
    The Hot Yoga Spot specializes in barre fitness and hot yoga classes at their Capital Region locations in Albany, Clifton Park, East Greenbush, Latham, and Saratoga Springs. With over 200 weekly sessions, beginners and advanced students alike will find a class that’s right for them. Special events and teacher training opportunities are also offered.
  • The Revolution – Multiple locations
    With three Capital Region locations – Albany, Clifton Park, and Loudonville – The Revolution is the area’s largest indoor cycling venue. Studios are staffed with real athletes who have a passion for cycling, music, and people. Join live, in-studio, or ride from home with their RevCast membership options.

Strength Training

Regular strength or resistance training is good for people of all ages and fitness levels. The gyms featured below specialize in strength training-workouts that focus on specific muscles using resistance, free weights, weight machines, and even your own body weight. Benefits of this workout style include improved strength, endurance, mood, balance, coordination, and posture.

  • Metabolic – Multiple locations
    Metabolic offers group training classes that are individualized to meet members at their fitness level. Metabolic coaches provide members with weight guidance and exercise modifications based on strength level, experience, and injury history. With fourteen locations across New York, a Metabolic studio might be closer than you think!
  • Battleground Fitness – Saratoga Springs, NY
    Battleground Fitness offers small- to mid-sized group classes. Classes are geared towards periodized strength training while incorporating cardiovascular training, mobility, and soft tissue work. Clients of the studio participate in periodic body assessments to monitor their progress and limitations.
  • Hardwired Fitness – Schenectady, NY
    At Hardwired Fitness, your path to fitness starts with personal training. This approach ensures trainers get to know you, understand your goals, and teach you proper techniques. After completing customized personal training sessions, clients can begin a group class membership where they will build upon the skills learned in personal training.

Traditional

With a variety of features and large assortment of cardio equipment, these centers are ideal for families and members of all ages.

  • CDPHP Fitness Connect at the Ciccotti Center – Colonie, NY
    This state-of-the-art fitness facility offers a wide array of services designed for all fitness levels. Group fitness classes, personal training, kids’ programs, gymnasium, indoor water park, and indoor pool are among some of the center’s features.
  • VENT Fitness – Multiple locations
    VENT Fitness is a locally owned, full-service health club offering equipment, classes, programs, and amenities in Clifton Park, Guilderland, Latham, and Niskayuna. Access to the SCORE basketball court, SPLASH aquatic area, and CLIMB rock wall are included with your membership. Other perks include the ENERGY bar and hydromassage beds.
  • Capital District YMCA – Multiple locations
    With several area locations and membership options, you are bound to find the “Y” for you. Plus, with YMCA360, members have access to on-demand content and livestream classes online.

Women only

These fitness studios cater to women and offer a variety of classes and styles.

  • Girl Fight Fitness – Glenville and Latham, NY
    These energetic workouts combine boxing moves with muscle-toning strength drills for a killer sweat! At Girl Fight Fitness, you’ll be challenged and supported by other women in a fun and welcoming environment.
  • Her Strength Studio – Latham, NY
    Her Strength Studio offers private, semi-private, and “mama & me” training programs exclusively for women. Their “StrongHer You” training program is curated just for you with help from a dedicated coach who will help you reach your goals. The studio also specializes in pregnancy and postnatal classes that help support expectant and new moms.

Depending on your CDPHP health plan, you may qualify for a fitness reimbursement benefit.* Eligible members can receive up to $400 per year for going to the gym, and their covered family members can earn up to a combined $200 – a total of $600 per family.
