Small Plan, Big Impact: The Regional Health Coverage That Carried Tiffany Through Cancer and Recovery

When Tiffany Ray started her new job at Hollenbeck Pest Control, she wasn’t sure what to expect from CDPHP, her new health plan. After years of working in local government with a large, nationally known insurance carrier, she had never heard of CDPHP. And, as someone who is proactive about her health and sees her doctors regularly, the transition made her uneasy.

That uncertainty became even heavier when Tiffany received news no one is ever prepared for: a breast cancer diagnosis.

“I was nervous about how everything would be handled,” she shared. “But from day one, CDPHP was phenomenal.”

Navigating the Unknown

Living in Newburgh, Tiffany spends much of her time at work or taking long walks with her dog, Buddy. Life felt routine, until it didn’t. Once she received her cancer diagnosis in July 2023, she began researching treatment centers. Instead of leaving her to navigate the process alone, CDPHP stepped in.

“They did all the legwork,” Tiffany said.

Ultimately, she chose the Dyson Cancer Center in Poughkeepsie and the two teams coordinated directly, ensuring the care she needed was approved and in place.

“Everything behind the scenes was great,” she said. “I was able to just focus on getting better.”

Care That Doesn’t Add Stress

Throughout chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy, and later plastic surgery, Tiffany never had to fight for her care. According to her, she didn’t struggle with denials or endless paperwork. She never felt left on her own.

“It was an effortless experience with CDPHP,” she said. “They were with me every step of the way.”

Her providers outlined expected costs early on, which was overwhelming, but her bills and copays stayed affordable. Getting the medications she needed was a smooth process. The amount of communication and updates from CDPHP about her coverage even exceeded her expectations. And when ongoing therapy became part of her routine, she simply showed up without having to jump through hurdles.

“I was really concerned going from a bigger insurance company,” Tiffany admitted. “I didn’t know what to expect with costs or coverage. But this turned out to be such a positive experience. I felt very taken care of.”

From Diagnosis to Remission

By July 2024, just one year after her diagnosis, Tiffany completed treatment and entered remission. Today, she continues taking medication for long-term care, and everything is covered. She sees the providers she needs, including weekly therapy appointments. She describes it all with one word: easy.

Her colleagues at Hollenbeck Pest Control using CDPHP also have nothing but good things to say.

“This is a great insurance to have,” Tiffany noted. “The staff loves it.”

A Mission in Action

Stories like Tiffany’s speak to the heart of the CDPHP mission: to make health care easier, not harder. Insurance shouldn’t feel like another obstacle during one of life’s most challenging moments. It should feel like support.

For Tiffany, it did.

“I’m so happy with how everything turned out,” she said. “CDPHP was fantastic. They followed through. They were proactive. They made sure I could get the care I needed.”

With her treatment behind her and remission ahead, Tiffany is moving forward with gratitude, and the reassurance that her health plan will continue to be by her side. She’s also looking forward to spending more time outside with Buddy.
