Finding the “Extra” Benefits in Your Health Care Plan

For lots of us, we tend to only think about our health insurance plan when we visit a doctor or hospital, fill a prescription, or during the annual enrollment period. Did you know that you can take advantage of your CDPHP® benefits in a variety of other ways every day – and not just when you need medical care?

Some things you may already know about, but some may be extra benefits included in your plan that you knew nothing about, even if you’ve been a longtime member!

logging in to CDPHP image

At CDPHP, we’re big on making sure you have the opportunity to self-serve as much as possible. That’s why we encourage everyone to register for an account. This doesn’t just apply to members, either – employers, brokers, and providers should take the time to create an account to access important documents and information.

For members, once you’ve logged in, you can access a host of important resources, including your benefit and deductible information, funding account balances, and more. To learn more about what you can do with your account, check out our Top 10 Reasons to Login blog.

locate in-network doctor

With CDPHP, you have a tool to quickly and easily help you look up health care providers, urgent care centers, labs, and more. Find-A-Doc can be accessed online or on the go via the My CDPHP Mobile app, which you can download for free. In addition, most plans give you access to a national network, meaning you’re covered coast-to-coast, but all plans include worldwide emergency coverage.

prescription drugs for less

CDPHP strives to offer members comprehensive, affordable drug coverage. By visiting Rx Corner, you can quickly look up your prescription drug formulary, or list of covered drugs. Not sure which formulary you have? No problem – simply check the upper right-hand corner of your CDPHP member ID card to find out. You can also find information about the prescription mail order service and Rx for Less, the program offering CDPHP members deep discounts on many generic prescription drugs at ConnectRx, Price Chopper/Market32, Walmart, Hannaford, ShopRite, Rite Aid, Stop & Shop, Kinney Drugs, Food Lion, Giant Food, and Walgreens, and multiple independent pharmacies.

Want to know how much a prescription will cost before you even set foot in the pharmacy? We can help you there, too.

free preventive care services

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and we want that prevention to come at no cost to you. With CDPHP, the vast majority of preventive services – like annual physical exams and important screenings – are covered in full. Also on that list – no-cost flu shots. Many primary care providers offer flu shots at their offices, sometimes even outside of office hours. But, we recognize that you have a busy schedule and it might be more convenient to simply visit your neighborhood pharmacy rather than the doctor. Usually, getting your shot at a participating pharmacy will cost you nothing (even if you have a deductible), but if it does, you can submit the bill for reimbursement from CDPHP.

Most CDPHP plans include Life Points® Rewards. If you’re not using the CDPHP Health Hub, powered by Virgin Pulse, you are really missing out! This digital wellness program rewards you for the healthy things you’re doing anyway. If you get your annual physical, flu shot, important screenings and vaccinations, and more, you’re well on your way to earning valuable Life Points Rewards. Life Points Rewards can then be redeemed for gift cards from a variety of retailers and CDPHP encourages members to use those gift cards to make health and wellness-related purchases.

free workshop for seniors

CDPHP offers free wellness classes and workshops to all members on topics ranging from prenatal fitness to rock climbing to getting a better night’s sleep.

Classes are offered at multiple locations throughout the Capital Region and are taught by experienced instructors. Some courses are single sessions while others are two- or three-part series. The offerings include education on becoming heart healthy, meal planning for diabetes, tai chi, stress and emotional eating and weight gain, yoga, how to deal with back and neck pain, and more. Check out the complete schedule.

CDPHP is here for you

While we certainly encourage you to call member services for help any time, we realize that sometimes it’s nice to sit and talk with someone face to face. At CDPHP Customer Connect℠ locations, anyone can meet with a knowledgeable member relations specialist for answers to benefit and claims questions, help scheduling doctor appointments, or enrolling in a CDPHP plan. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome.
